Extracurricular help!

First of all, look into what to college of choice likes to see. Some like to see you build things (programs, etc.), and others like to see other things. So look into that, I guess. When it comes to passion projects, decide what you like. If you hate it, you won’t have fun, and colleges will probably see a reflection of that. For you specifically, I would say use your skills and knowledge to your benefit. One thing that is relatively simple, fun, and interesting to write about in applications is a program where you can teach kids. Whether you help younger violin players or create an unofficial first aid class for elementary kids, I think that working with kids is one of the best. So there’s that. Otherwise, if you feel safe doing so, you could try (probably with a group) to create a medical center (even if it’s an unofficial tent set up in a community park) for homeless people in your community. This would be great for making an impact. Also, you could create a program with a rotation of volunteers playing for nursing homes. I’m not familiar with your situation, but those are some general ideas for people like you who are going into medical and play music. When it comes to passion projects, make it your goal to 1. Create the biggest impact you can (reach as many people) and 2. Make it into something that outlasts you. That’s why I kept mentioning creating programs, not just signing up as a single volunteer.
