What do colleges exactly look at when they look at GPA

Currently, my estimated unwheighted GPA for the end of junior year is 3.5; however, this year I have received all A's so far, and my semester weighted GPA was a 4.57, which is far more impressive than my 3.75 unwheighted overall. I heard somewhere that colleges specifically consider your freshman and junior years when evaluating your GPA. Are they looking for an increase? a consistent gpa? Am I geeked or locked in because of my major increase in GPA in 11th grade? Pls lmk

No, not necessarily. If it was, it would make applications a LOT easier. They just want to make sure you won't flunk out year one. They may ask the reason/cause for the improvement but that's not their focus as the increase is probably from the classes you took (APs, honors, etc). They want to see if you're well-rounded so just focusing on GPA wouldn't tell them that. They'll look at extracurricular, life situations, essays, the whole package so just because your GPA is good doesn't mean you're locked in, especially if it's a competitive college.

TL;DR: GPA helps but doesn't guarantee.
